Kicking HER2 The Curb

Our Story

In March of this year, I underwent my annual mammogram at which time they noted a mass in my right breast. Needless to say, this was a surprise. I had no symptoms and the mass was not palpable. After a biopsy, I was diagnosed with triple-positive (estrogen+, progesterone+, HER2+) breast cancer.  Following the biopsy, I underwent a lumpectomy in April and started chemotherapy in May.  I have one cycle of chemotherapy left on 9/3, woohoo!  I will then undergo a bilateral mastectomy followed by radiation.

The journey has been difficult and there is still a road ahead.  However, I am fortunate to have the amazing support of my family and friends.  My husband and boys take the best care of me and always lift my spirits.  The love and prayers I constantly receive get me through each day.  I have an excellent medical team who provide guidance and wonderful care.

My family and I decided to participate in the Susan G. Komen More Than Pink Walk this year to support research and their mission to end breast cancer forever.

The money our team raises will fund research to discover more effective treatments, as well as vital patient support to help connect people with things like breast cancer education & information, emotional support, patient navigation, financial assistance and so much more.

Ending breast cancer needs all of us. United together, we can support those who need help today, while fearlessly searching for tomorrow's cures.
