Chrissy's Story (FLOWER POWER)
Near the end of 2021, I was diagnosed with breast cancer (invasive ductal carcinoma). It was actually caught the week of my birthday... Happy Birthday to Me, ha! Since it was caught early, I wanted to fight aggressively. So, I chose a double mastectomy. I was instantly at peace with my decision. That's not everyone's choice, but it was the right one for me. What I didn't realize was that I wouldn't be able to lift my arms... for quite some time. That was a surprise, but PT helped. I also had expanders (that were filled quickly, and hurt more than I'd guess) and reconstruction in 2022 (along with more PT). Here it is 2024... and although I feel like the fight should be over, I'm still on cancer meds due to my cancer being hormone related (and will be for some time, yet).
Many panic attacks, tears, and struggles later (don't worry, that's normal), I've decided to create a team for the Susan G Komen More Than Pink Walk.
I chose Flower Power as the team name for many reasons.
1. If you know me, you know I love flowers.
2. It takes power and courage to fight cancer.
3. I have B/W floral tattoos on both breasts to cover my mastectomy scars (because I wanted to take back my story).
4. Couldn't think of another name that would fit me as perfectly as this one.
As y'all know, cancer sucks. Let's walk to end breast cancer. If you are able to donate, that would be awesome! I'm encouraging all to donate $2, and that will be one step closer to me reaching my goal. Will you please join me in this fight by making your donation today?
Fighting breast cancer, one step at a time.
Love ya, Chrissy.
