My Story
On April 21, 2023 had my yearly routine screening mammogram. I actually forgot about it and got the little reminder card in the mail. 15 minutes in and out…no big deal.
They called me that afternoon and asked me to come back for “more images”. Probably just some bad pictures or blurs they said. However, I knew the technician had told me how good my images were before I left.
April 27th was the diagnostic mammogram. Pictures and then more pictures…back and forth between the technician and the radiologist. Finally, she said we would like an ultrasound.
Ok probably I cyst I thought…and off to the ultrasound we go. As I was laying there I could see the screen…and the image…and how she kept clicking measurements and still photos. The radiologist came in…we need a biopsy he said.
I immediately teared up….a biopsy? He said he just could not discern from the images and we needed to check.
On May 2nd I had 2 Breast biopsies. We will call you in 3 or 4 days.
On Thursday May 4th, I got the call from my OBGYN-I’m sorry to tell you that you have an invasive carcinoma and we need to get you to a surgeon.
On Thursday May 11th, I saw my surgeon and breast navigator.
On Friday May 12th, I went to genetic counseling and testing
On Wednesday May 17th I had a breast MRI
June 6th saw my new Oncologist
June 16th-partial mastectomy (lumpectomy) and sentinel node dissection
June 22nd-Pathology report that they got clear margins and no cancer was found in my lymph nodes.
62 days....from mammogram to great pathology report.
It is not over, I still need radiation and it could come back.
You always try to think of the reason…
Maybe I am to be closer to God and prayer
Maybe I am to change my lifestyle
Maybe I am to advocate for others for screenings
Maybe it is all of the above? Either way….
LADIES!!!! Please get your screenings!! Don’t put them off…it doesn’t take long. JUST DO IT
GENTLEMEN!!! Ask your Ladies if they have had their screenings!! Make sure they make time for themselves
15 minutes goes a long way….
