My Story
My mother died in 2016, after a long brave 27 year battle with cancer. She was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 34, with no family history, no physical health problems, and no warning. Her first oncologist did the best he could at the time, but the lumpectomy he performed did not successfully remove all of the cancer, and she spent the rest of her life fighting to beat cancer. She endured multiple rounds of chemotherapy, radiation, a bone marrow transplant, and lastly an amputation when the cancer moved to her bones and led to an incurable infection in her leg.
Because of my mother's struggle, I will always be at an increased risk of developing breast cancer. I undergo yearly mammograms and breast MRIs, and I do everything I can to support research and provide resources for people affected by breast cancer.
