My Story
On February 5, 2021, I had been diagnosed with breast cancer. Hearing the words "you have cancer" is the most terrifying thing a doctor can say to you. It stirs up so many emotions. What about my family, how do I tell them. What about my life, I'm not ready to go. What about the treatment, will I make it through, how long will that journey be? Will I survive? As of September 2024, I will be completing my third year of survivorship. My journey is not over. I'm routinely checked on preventive medications that maintain a healthy balance of hormones that had once triggered cancer to grow. Prior to my own personal experience, I witnessed several family members (biologically and non-biologically) related traverse their own path. Few survived. Since my own diagnoses, I've many more friends, family, and acquaintances have join me in the battle of cancer, and to bravely attempt survivorship, with remission as the goal. Cancer has been around since the dawn of humankind; traces of this horrible disease has been detected in our first hominids. Yet, we can travel to space, create artificial intelligence, reign in other diseases, and cancer remains a mystery for being cured. It is not for lack of effort, but how complex cancer is, and how each individuals journey with cancer takes them. Those who have had cancer, your story is unique to you, as is your journey to fighting it. Last year I joined this event, I walked for all family members who had fought this battle, be it breast cancer or other forms. We raised over $3600. My goal was only $500. I say we did well. This year, my goal is $1,500 but I would love to not only beat last years results, but to exceed it. This is a big ask. This isn't just about breast cancer, its about all forms. We need funding to educated, assist those who financially struggle with the medical bills, to raise awareness, and to be part of the cure. Cancer is a tremendous battle to fight. We need help to continue that fight. It is time that we cure this disease. Please join me in raising funds and stop cancer in it's tracks. Thank you.
This year, I joined the Komen community and registered for the Susan G. Komen MORE THAN PINK Walk. I am dedicated to Komen's mission of ending breast cancer forever, and I need your help. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation today in support of my fundraising efforts.
