Marcella's Story
Last year, April 6, 2023 I was diagnosed with IDC triple positive breast cancer. The cancer was detected at my annual mammogram in Feb. Biopsies and MRI's taken in the following months confirmed the diagnosis.
After my third round of chemotherapy, I was sitting on the couch, feeling crummy - scrolling through social media. I happened upon information for the Susan G. Komen More Than Pink walk. As motivation I signed up to participate, and in moments a fundraiser appeared on my facebook page.
That crummy day on the couch led me to raising $12,000 in funds to help with breast cancer support and research. This year, I'm proactively launching the fundraiser earlier - almost one year after my surgery.
I am personally grateful for the research and treatment advances in breast cancer. My treatment includes Herceptin, a life saving medicine. Prior to 1998 (when Herceptin was approved) my breast cancer type (her2+) was a death sentence.
Your support helps us get one step closer to a world without breast cancer. Funds raised help support breakthrough research and provide assistance to those facing breast cancer today who need our support. Whether it’s emotional support via Komen’s helpline, financial support through Komen’s financial assistance program, or navigation services to break down barriers to care, Komen will be there for them.
Ending breast cancer needs all of us, and your generosity can make a real difference. Together, let’s show breast cancer patients there’s a whole community standing by their side.
