Faith Fueled My Fight
I never missed my regular preventative mammograms and my Oct. 2023 visit was not any different, except that I had previously felt a very small lump maybe a month before - thinking maybe it was a cyst or lymph node. I knew I would have my annual mammogram soon and I would be assured that it was nothing.
After my mammogram was completed, my report read that I had a negative mammogram, and return in a year. After contacting my OBGYN for an appointment to check out the small painless lump, I was sent back for a diagnostic mammogram and ultimately an ultrasound and biopsy in Dec. 2023.
Jan. 3, 2024, I received the call that I had Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. After seeing my surgeon and oncologist, it was confirmed that I had Triple Negative Breast Cancer, Stage 2, Grade 3. I began chemo/immunotherapy on 2/13/24, my 59th birthday, which I completed after 5 months. I recently had breast conserving surgery, and will still need to have radiation followed by immunotherapy.
This has been a life-changing journey where I have learned a lot about myself and others. My faith in God, MUCH prayer, also the prayers, love and support of family and friends, has helped me to stay positive and continue to fight. It hasn't been easy, but I am grateful for the life lessons cancer has taught me.
