Know Your Risk: Why I Walk for Breast Cancer
Hello friends and family,
I’m reaching out to share something deeply personal and to invite you to join me in a cause that’s close to my heart. As many of you know, breast cancer has impacted my family profoundly. Every woman on both sides of my family has faced either a breast cancer diagnosis or undergone a mastectomy to prevent it. This devastating pattern led my mom to undergo genetic counseling, where she discovered she carried a genetic mutation that significantly increased her risk of breast cancer. She made the brave choice to undergo a double mastectomy.
I followed in her footsteps, taking the BRCA test through Color.com, and learned that I too carried this mutation. On August 31, 2021, I underwent a double mastectomy with reconstruction. It has been a long and challenging journey, but it has given me peace of mind, knowing that I am actively reducing my risk of cancer rather than living with the constant uncertainty.
Now, I’m taking another step in this journey by participating in the Susan G. Komen walk to raise funds for breast cancer research. This cause is vital, not just for those who have faced cancer, but for future generations who might be affected.
I’m asking for your support in this endeavor. Your donation will contribute to groundbreaking research that can improve prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of breast cancer. Every contribution, big or small, helps bring us closer to a world without breast cancer.
Please consider making a donation to my fundraising page. Your support means the world to me and to countless others fighting this battle. Together, we can make a difference and help ensure that no one else has to face the uncertainty and fear that comes with this disease.
Thank you for standing with me and for all those affected by breast cancer. Your kindness and support are deeply appreciated.
