My Story

1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. On February 15,  that woman was me.  Since then I have undergone 3 major surgeries in 3 months with painful recovery in between. I have scars all over my torso to remind me that I’m fighting back. Although I sit in the best position possible for my circumstance and version of breast cancer, my journey has just begun. I start  physical therapy soon and I’m on endocrine therapy for the next 5 years. The medical treatment has side effects that feel like watered down chemo. It’s either deal with that or reoccurrence.  Even then, there is no guarantee that the treatment I’m on will prevent the cancer from returning within the next 5 years.  We need to find better treatment that doesn’t leave us with debilitating side effects or cause additional complications just to prevent breast cancer metastases.

This year, I joined the Komen community and registered for the Susan G. Komen MORE THAN PINK Walk. It is being held at the Woodland Park Zoo on Saturday, 9/28.  I invite you to walk with me in a show of solidarity and enjoy a day at the zoo! I’d love to see you.  If you can’t make it but want to show your support, please consider making a tax-deductible donation.

Funds raised help support breakthrough research and provide assistance to those facing breast cancer today who need our support. Whether it’s emotional support via Komen’s helpline, financial support through Komen’s financial assistance program, or navigation services to break down barriers to care, Komen will be there for them.

Thank you.
