My Story
It was never a secret, but it felt weird and attention seeking to be like "hey everybody I have breast cancer."
In March a lump was found in my right breast during a regular mammogram. It was cancerous, and while it was non-aggressive and hadn't developed much it also made it into my lymph nodes. I had a lumpectomy in mid May to remove the mass and the cancerous nodes, followed up with 6 weeks of radiation which i finished August 1. I was very lucky. I tell people that the whole thing was inconvenient, but I had a great team of doctors that got me through it all and I spent very minimal time scared or in pain. I have a future of prevention, but I'd like to think I'm cancer free at this time.
The science of it all is pretty amazing, and through research they know so much more now (than they did even 5 years ago) about treatments, what works, and what is ineffective.
