My Story
Hi Everyone and thank you so much for visiting my fundraising page. My name is Kristen Siskind and I am a 6 year TRIPLE NEGATIVE Breast Cancer Survivor.
I was born and raised in Aurora, OH and attended Bowling Green State University. I majored in Accounting and was offered a job right out of college in 2010. I met my husband, Adam, in 2013 and we were then engaged in 2016. We were married in 2017 and life was going amazing. We both had great jobs, loved to travel, and were getting ready to start a family in addition to our three furbabies. We were celebrating St Patrick's Day in 2018 with some friends and I felt a lump that weekend while taking a shower. I did a little google search, found out it probably wasn't cancer considering I was only 30. I thought better safe than sorry and I went to the doctor. Well that doctor led me to a mammogram, which led to ultrasounds, which led to 7 biopsies (over three different times), CT Scans, a Bone scan and a Stage 3 Triple Negative Breast Cancer Diagnosis. I luckily caught it prior to it spreading outside my breast and lymph nodes and was ready to fight.
Triple Negative Breast Cancer has the highest mortality rate (which then turns into Metastatic cancer) and 3 years ago Google basically told me it was a death sentence. But my doctor's told me we would fight this and that I did. I went through 16 rounds of chemotherapy, surgery, 31 rounds of radiation and an attempt at a new treatment option, an oral chemo pill that my liver could not handle. I went through treatment with what many say positivity and grace. People would otten say "you do not look sick" or I cannot believe how well you were handling it. I was fortunate enough to have minimal side effects during my treatment besides hair loss and loss of taste. I also had the best support system out there that you can see from my photos.
During my final few rounds of chemotherapy, one of my friends told me her work had a team for Susan G Komen Race for the Cure and asked if I would be interested in joining her. I did my first walk in 2018 and was amazed at all the Survivors and Supporters out there. I cried during the ceremony (as I do every year) and could not believe all those people were there for me (and many others). This will now be my seventh walk and since 2018 my team has raised more than $28,000!!
I continue to fundraise and raise awareness for Breast Cancer and Susan G. Komen. I have seen several promising treatment options for Triple Negative and Metastatic Breast Cancer in the 5 years since my diagnosis. I have seen firsthand funds that NEO has raised go to a family's rent payment, rides to chemotherapy and gifts under a Christmas Tree for a mother with young kids. It is so important that we continue to fundraise for us Survivors, Thrivers and our future. We need a cure so that no one has to go through the hardships of cancer. That is why I am here and that is why I will continue to walk every year.
Ileave you with this, Support the Fighters, Admire the Survivors, Honor the Taken and Never Give Up Hope.
Thank vou.
