Peg's Story:
My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer for the first time at the young age of 39. She underwent surgical treatment along with radiation at that time. She has completed many mammograms, ultrasounds and MRIs since then to follow up closely with her breast health.
Unfortunately this June, her screening breast MRI came back abnormal. An abnormal biopsy followed. She was diagnosed with breast cancer for a second time. Thankfully, due to her following close screenings, this was caught early- "Stage 1, Grade 2, Her2 Positive breast cancer".
My mom underwent a bilateral mastectomy on August 1st of this year and is recovering and healing very well. She is scheduled to start 12 weeks of chemotherapy beginning in September. My mom has been SO upbeat and positive and has been ready to tackle the obstacles thrown her way with grace. Her healthcare team is confident her treatment will eradicate her cancer & her surgery has reduced the chance of this returning EVER again!
Thanks to the Susan G. Komen foundation and research, my mom's breast health has been closely monitored for the past few decades. Her surgical and oncology teams are supported from this foundation via donations for breakthrough cancer research. This foundation has helped support my mom (and other women) in so many ways!
Let's celebrate Peg and her positivity in this journey to come!
