My Story

At the age of 45 I was diagnosed with breast cancer at the end of September 2023. Just moved from one state to another and into the new town. Getting my annual mammogram done before we moved, my radiologist saw something that he asked me to get another imaging done, he then asked to schedule a biopsy to determine my situation, but moving and dropping of my son at his school was a priority. We moved into the new town, established and engaged new doctors who were exceptionally knowledgeable and brilliant in their field @UW Health | Carbon Cancer Center. I immediately knew I was in great hands. Now another MRI and imagines were done so they can determine the course of action. It was a jolt to heart and was in denial for few days when the results came out, I then had to wrap my head around and accepted my situation. Now it was time for few more tests done, multiple biopsies to determine where the cancer cells are and whether it was invasive or not. The biopsy came out - two negative and one positive. Got some other tests done, including genetic tests to determine whether I’m carry forwarding anything to my child or not - fortunately he is in the clear.

Went through a Lumpectomy surgery on November 30th, 2023 is also called breast-conserving surgery and also radiation, but no chemo. Apparently none of my parents side of the family has any history of cancer, but I was a chosen one.

I can’t stress and emphasize enough how important it is to get screened and checked for all cancers, especially for women mammograms for an early detection and to do self breast-exams Is best practice for an early detection.

I think our scars remind us of what we have overcome. They are part of what makes each of us unique. This journey has made me stronger, and it has empowered me to see the world differently. My boys are my rock (Husband & Son) and doctors and their team wanted me to spread awareness for an early detection, as it has helped me and wish it would help others.

Thank you. ♥✨
