Why I Walk
I started participating in the Komen DC Event over 20 years ago when my Mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. My family is fortunate in that she won her battle with this disease and is still with us today. I have participated every year since because I want all who are touched by breast cancer to have the same result.
I walk for all of my friends who have battled this disease. Most have won their battles but a few have not. Diagnostics and treatments have come a long way, but I want to see the day when nobody loses a battle with breast cancer.
I walk because every woman deserves proper health care. Recent decisions by the Supreme Court and a number of states, don't just impact a woman's right to choose, they also impact the ability of women in underserved communities to access other female healthcare needs. Komen helps to provide access and this help is needed now more than ever.
