My Cancer JOurney

This year, I registered for the Komen Race for the Cure because I wanted to take action and be More Than Pink. In June of 2020 cancer entered my life with no invitation.  I didn't know then how hard of a journey it would be and all the blessings I would find along the way.

This has been a journey of highs and lows, with many more days spent seeking medical treatments than I could have ever imagined.  But what I have also found is a clarity of life, because tomorrow is never promised.

For those who may be reading this who don't know my cancer journey - the highlight is mammograms save lives.  I was diagnosed with breast cancer after a routine mammogram 1 year and 3 days since my last.  The one in 2019 was 100% clear.  The biopsy results revealed that it was HER2 positive, which was not great news but being small and early were on my side.  I had 17 rounds of chemo (interrupted by a saddle pulmonary embolism caused by the cancer), a lumpectomy and lymph node removal surgery, 30 rounds of radiation, 5 months and counting of wound care following infected seromas in the cancer breast after radiation ended and currently in different chemo routine and have finished 9 of 13.  While my treatment has been aggressive (and longer than I hoped) it was needed to match what was found and feel so fortunate that it was small and early.  I had no symptoms it as just growing silently in my body.

I want to make an impact in the fight against breast cancer for the next generation of girls and need your help. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation today in support of my fundraising efforts.

Your support helps us get one step closer to a world without breast cancer. Which is a dream I have for my granddaughters (yes, as a mom of three girls - it's where my head goes).  Funds raised help support breakthrough research and help for the women and men facing breast cancer today who need our support now, as much as ever.

I am blessed to have received such kindness from so many of my different families - my mom and girls, my brothers, my church family, my work family, friends that have become like family and from all my caregivers in this journey.  That support and love has helped to cast love and kindness over this ugly cancer.

In moments like this, your generosity can make a real difference. Together, let’s show breast cancer patients there’s a whole community standing by their side - and we are ready to kick it to the curb!

Will you please join me in this fight by making a donation today?  If your up for it join us for the walk, I do intend to walk in person in Houston on Oct. 2.  Or walk from where you are!
