My Story

This year, more than 42,000 people in the U.S. will die of breast cancer. That is the equivalent of a sold-out Minute Maid Stadium disappearing!! We have made great progress over the last 30+ years in the fight against breast cancer, but with 1 in 8 women in the U.S. expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime, nearly everyone is touched in some way by this dreaded disease.

For me, it started before I was born with my paternal grandmother being diagnosed in her 60s. Then, my mother-in-law was diagnosed in 1994 in her early 50s. Finally, my dearest sister-in-law, Kim, was diagnosed is 2013 in her late 40s. All were so fortunate as they fought their diagnosis (which was not easy AT ALL) and won!! But many have not been so lucky!

In early 2019 I was offered the role of Executive Director for Komen Houston. I gladly accepted the position and, almost 3 years later, I am fortunate to serve as a Regional Vice President for the organization. This last 18 months has been exceptionally challenging for all since COVID-19 came into the picture and affected so many of us.

But, BREAST CANCER ISN’T CANCELLED!! We must continue to fight to support research and services for our breast cancer community. I am so excited to participate in person at our 31st Komen Houston Race for the Cure on October 2nd. Many will “Run Where They Are” as we are encouraging both types of participation, but I hope you will support me and my team, Kim Possible (in honor of Kim Kolar), with our efforts. In turn, you are honoring all of those you have known that have fought breast cancer, providing hope to those who are currently battling breast cancer and, hopefully, finding a cure before more people are diagnosed with breast cancer.

Will you please join me in this fight by making a donation today?
