What makes you feel connected to Susan G. Komen and our mission to end breast cancer?
In 2019, I was diagnosed with breast cancer at my very first mammogram. It was quite a shock, but I was able to get genetic testing as well as preventative surgery to ensure the best chance of curing the cancer and preventing it from coming back. During my double mastectomy, it was discovered that I actually had multiple sites with cancerous cells and they were aggressive. Twenty years ago, this early diagnosis and preventative care would not have been available. I had multiple surgeries, a great integrated care team and a lot of support from my family, friends and workplace. I want to make sure anyone who is diagnosed has the same level of care and support that I did, and that we continue to fund research to catch breast cancer earlier and earlier.
Where might people get to see you with your wig on?
I do go into my office a few days a week and I will be proudly sporting it there. I will be on spring break with my family, so there should be a sighting or two in Mexico. I can take my wig with me to a board meeting as well as a client meeting or two. Of course, I will wear it out on date nights in downtown Milwaukee and to my boys' sporting events in Brookfield!
What will be your competitive edge against the other BigWigs?
My competitive edge is the great network of friends and supporters I had during my breast cancer journey. If my fundraising is as well coordinated as my multiple food trains were during treatment, I am a shoo in to win!
What is one fun fact about you?
I have four boys ages 20 to 9. I grew up in a household with only sisters so this has been quite a learning curve for me!
