Welcome to A Sole Team For Vickie,
It is our honor and privilege to serve as leaders for A Sole Team For Vickie (ASTFV). For eighteen years, ASTFV had been a part of the Susan G Komen Triangle Race for the Cure. The Race raised money which was allocated to support breast cancer patients with treatment and preventative measures. In the fall of 2020, Komen announced the MBC Collaborative Research Initiative (MBCCRI), a first-of-its-kind collaborative effort that is uniting the best and brightest researchers at Duke Cancer Institute and University of North Carolina (UNC) Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center to find breakthrough discoveries to end metastatic breast cancer (MBC) and give hope to those living with the disease.
You are probably wondering what the difference is between the SGK Triangle Race and the MBCCRI. Both the Triangle Race and MBCCRI main goal is to raise money to find a cure for Breast Cancer. The differences are how the money is distributed. 80 cents of every dollar raised from the Triangle Race is spent by headquarters to support mission programs and services throughout the country.
The MBCCRI fund’s sole focus is finding a CURE for Metastatic Breast Cancer. The MBCCRI fund uses only 10% for administrative costs and 90% of the donations are restricted and support the life-saving, critical research happening at Duke Cancer Institute and UNC Lineberger Cancer Cancer Center. UNC and Duke are highly regarded as two of the country's top Breast Cancer Research Facilities. By working together, these researchers are addressing significant gaps in our knowledge about MBC to advance patient care and improve patient outcomes. ASTFV made this change because the MBCCRI offers a more direct funding pipeline for Breast Cancer Research. Research is the goal of ASTFV and is more in line with keeping the promise we both made to Vickie. Research will find the cure for Breast Cancer, and money makes research possible. We appreciate any support you can give us towards the MBCCRI. Thank you in advance for considering the MBCCRI as part of your charitable endeavor.
