I am running my first marathon this December in memory of my grandmother. She was my greatest role model, my loudest cheerleader, and my guardian angel; she has shaped so much of the person I am today.
My grandmother overcame breast cancer when I was a child, so when her cancer returned years later, I think part of me still believed she was invincible. She passed away last year. Losing her has changed the way I think about resilience and purpose, and I am honored to carry her memory with me on this journey.
When I started training for my first marathon, choosing to run with Team Komen felt like a meaningful way to honor her. The Susan G. Komen foundation supports breast cancer research, familial support, and patient advocacy, helping people facing breast cancer today while working toward a future where fewer lives are lost to the disease. In a world where 1 in 8 women will be impacted by breast cancer, I am so grateful to be able to support such an impactful cause.
So, these 26.2 miles are for my grandmother. If you'd like to be part of the journey, I would be grateful for your support of my Team Komen fundraiser.
Together, we can turn her memory into something that helps other families facing breast cancer.
