In 2013, my incredible mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. She underwent a bilateral mastectomy, twelve rounds of chemotherapy, radiation, and reconstructive surgery. She was also part of an experimental research study that contributed to the continued advancement of breast cancer treatment. Today, she has been cancer-free for 12 years.
In the U.S., 1 in 8 women will face breast cancer in their lifetime.
I'm running the Honolulu Marathon for my mom and for every woman and family affected by breast cancer. I'm raising money for Susan G. Komen for the Cure to help fund lifesaving research and support for those facing the disease today.
Because of medical advancements and my mom's tenacity, I'm incredibly lucky that she's still here. The least I can do is run 26.2 miles for a future where more families get that same gift.
Please join me in the fight against breast cancer. Every donation, no matter the amount, brings us one step closer to saving more lives.
