From Diagnosis to the NYC Marathon
May 10, 2025 began like so many Saturdays do—a busy morning with the kids...Then I received a call from my radiologist. When your doctor calls on the weekend you know it isn’t good news.
My breast cancer diagnosis was confirmed Mother's Day weekend. And in those early days, when everything felt uncertain, my thoughts kept returning to my children.
As my treatment plan came together, I made a promise to myself. When I got through this—when I beat cancer—I would run the New York City Marathon again, fulfilling a long-time personal goal. Today, I am incredibly grateful, humbled, and excited to say I am on the other side, running the NYC marathon 15 years after I ran it for the first time, but this time as a cancer survivor.
So many of you stood by me. You showed up, sent meals/care packages, checked in, encouraged me, prayed, and reminded me what it truly means to be there for someone when they need it most. I would not have made it through this without you.
My breast cancer story has a hopeful ending, but too many do not. One in eight women in the U.S. will be impacted by breast cancer in their lifetime. That’s why I’m fundraising to support Susan G. Komen’s vision of a world without breast cancer.
I’m running for the people who carried me through my hardest days—my family, my friends, my colleagues, and my care team. I’m running for those who have gone through their own breast cancer journey as we are part of a sisterhood we didn't choose (Marsha Obringer, Nicole Gavigan and Jane Walsh to name a few). I'm running for those still in the middle of their fight, and for those who don’t yet know their diagnosis is coming. I’m running for my daughters' future and the hope for better treatments, stronger support systems, and, ultimately, a cure. I'm running for my dad, my hero, who loved to run, believed in me always, and taught me never to give up.
What your donation does: As the world’s largest and most impactful breast cancer organization, Susan G. Komen funds more breast cancer research than any nonprofit outside the U.S. government and provides real-time support to those facing the disease.
Please consider donating to Susan G. Komen to support lifesaving research and the care services people rely on as they go through breast cancer treatment.
Thank you for your love and support.
