In 2014, to honor the journey of my dear friend, Alison, I completed my first Susan G. Komen 3-Day, and my life was forever changed.  The desire to continue to raise much needed funds and awareness for breast cancer research and programs, through the Susan G. Komen organization, became my calling,  

 

In 2024, I completed my 11th 3-Day/60-mile walk, and my enthusiasm for this cause and this organization are stronger than ever.  The only difference is that in recent years, following the pandemic and the discontinuance of the Twin Cities event, I have staged my own event in my hometown of Hanover, MN.  For the past 4 years, I have mapped out my own route, walking 4 different 5-mile loops, each day, for 3 days in a row, starting and ending from my front door.  From the very beginning, I have been blessed with friends, family, and neighbors who happily volunteer to walk some of the loops with me.  Let it be noted that I never walk alone.  Going into its 5th year, that scenario has continued to evolve and grow into a much-loved and anticipated community event, supported by a group who now call themselves, Sandy’s  "Breast Friends”! This year's walk has been scheduled for September 26, 27 and 28.
