I’m asking for your support for Susan G. Komen because my own breast cancer experience revealed gaps in awareness, screening, and insurance coverage that put countless women at risk.
For years, I was told I had extremely dense breasts—a condition that not only raises breast cancer risk, but also makes cancer harder to detect on routine mammograms. Despite yearly screenings, my cancer went unseen until a lump appeared in 2014. Even then, I was told, “we don’t see anything.” By the time I was diagnosed, I faced 8 cm of DCIS and 6 mm of invasive cancer, requiring a mastectomy and a year of chemotherapy.
Today, I still pay over $1,000 annually for an MRI—the only imaging that can see what my mammograms missed—because insurance covers so little of the cost. That’s why I’m passionate about supporting legislation like the Find It Early Act and the ABCD Act, which would require full insurance coverage for necessary breast imaging, helping women detect cancer earlier and avoid devastating delays.
Your donation will help fund research, advocacy, and patient support so that more women can get the care they need—when they need it—without cost standing in the way. Early detection saves lives. Let’s make sure no one is left behind.
