Our soccer team - the 2013 Chatham Tempest - is determined to make an impact in the fight against breast cancer.
This October we are wearing pink gear in all of our games to raise awareness of the fact that 1 in 8 women in the U.S. will be impacted by breast cancer in their lifetime.
In addition to increasing awareness, we are also raising funds to help find a cure and save lives.
This cause is particularly important to me because my mom had breast cancer twice. The chemo medications available at the time damaged her heart (but gave her many more good years with her that we wouldn't have otherwise had) which ultimately resulted in her needing a heart transplant. While Mom survived the transplant, she still passed away several days later, in April 2020.
Seeing what Mom went through is part of what motivated me to have a career in clinical research, and thinking about the patients and their families who are desperate for a cure motivates me every day. So for me, and for many of you, I'm sure, October is more than just a time to wear pink - it's a time to take action to honor those we love who are battling or have battled with this terrible disease.
You can join the Tempest in in our fight by making a contribution to our effort.
Thank you for supporting our team as we work together to end breast cancer.
Sending you all love.
