Kyla Marie Berryman Childs

Kyla Marie Berryman Childs, passed away on May 9, 2024, in her home in Jacksonville, Florida, after a hard-fought battle with breast cancer. Born in Los Angeles, California, on November 15, 1967, Kyla was known by all who met her as a strong, compassionate and vibrantly happy woman who loved her kids more than anything in the world.

When she was a child, she moved to Slidell, Louisiana, with her parents, Gene and Linda Berryman, and her sister Kara. Her exceptionally sweet spirit attracted the love of her life who she met at only 12 years old. Just one year older, Earl Childs, Jr., told his friends from the beginning he’d marry Kyla one day and they did on June 1, 1985.

Defeating the odds and proving anyone who thought they were too young to get married, Earl and Kyla had a long and happy marriage, staying more in love than ever until the very end, 39 years later. The pride and joy of Kyla’s life were her five children. She dedicated everything to making her children happy and setting them up for success.

When Kyla was diagnosed with breast cancer in the spring of 2021, it was already at stage four. But, strong fighter that she was, she battled long and hard to try to defeat the odds. In the end, she was dedicated to raising awareness of breast cancer and her family strives every day to continue that legacy.
