So, has anyone wondered where the team name, “Hooter Crew” came from? Allow me to explain. 5 of us friends have worked together, raised our children together and seen each other through the best and worst of times in life. A group text came through on a Saturday morning, as I was drinking my coffee, I read, “I HAVE BREAST CANCER.” What does a friend do? Well, I knew at that moment we had to surround her with compassion, support, love and laughter. We cried together but made it clear- we don’t give up. So, we surrounded our friend and her family with support. The First walk for a cure was in 2020- and we named our team, Hayden’s Hooters (thanks Lisa Milner Upcraft )! Fast forward, 2022. There’s always a banter of sarcasm, memes and check in’s in our group texts. Well. This text was one sentence “HOOTER DOWN!” We learned another Hooter sister had heard those dreaded words- “You have Breast Cancer.” Total gut punch. In true Hooter fashion, we adjusted the sails and did what we do. We unite and let her know she’ll never be alone and dammit- she fought that fight with grace and strength. With their strength, families, friends and the Hooter sisters by their side, both Paula & Kristy BEAT CANCER! In 2022 in the midst of her treatments, Kristy still wanted to raise awareness and funds. We needed a team name. So, HOOTER CREW it was and will always be! This walk is more than raising money for a cause. It’s celebrating life and friendships. It’s awareness and support to anyone affected by this nasty disease. In closing, statistically 1 in 8 people are diagnosed with breast cancer. 2 of 5 women in our circle have fought the fight, hence our motto, “her fight is our fight!” I hope this story of inspires you to walk with us locally or long distance on 10/20. Our goal is to support people in our community fighting the fight. Together, We are HOOTER STRONG!
