Dates and locations are up to local organizers. Find your local event for more information.

What qualifies as a Race for the Cure team?

A team is a group of two or more participants. We’ve found the most successful teams have 10 or more members, but even smaller teams can make a mighty fundraising impact!

Are there perks to being on a team?

Participating with a team connects you with a group of folks with a shared reason for participating. The best teams provide motivation, encouragement, support and team spirit.

How can I start a team?

Click the Register button at the top of your local event page and select the Start a Team option.

How can I join an existing team?

If you’re already registered for your local Race, log in to your Participant Center and visit the Registration Info tab, then select the Event Options button. Under Change Team Membership, click the option to Join a Team and search for the team using one of the search options. Click the Join Team button next for your preferred team in the search results and you’re done!

Not registered? Click the Register button at the top of your local event page and select Join a Team. Search using the team name or team captain name, then click the Join Team button next to your preferred team in the search results.

Tip for Successful Searches: Less is more when searching. Instead of searching for the full team name, pick one word to search or search just using the team captain’s first name.

Do my team members have to register?

Yes. Their registration gives them access to the multiple fundraising channels and connects them to the community of participants and fundraisers all working toward the goal of ending breast cancer forever.

How do I add members to my team?

Share the link to your team page with family, friends, colleagues and neighbors with instructions to click the Join Our Team button on the page. If someone has already registered but forgot to add themselves to your team, they can join your team in the Registration Info > Event Options section of their Participant Center or contact us for assistance.

Can donations made to a team be split or shared among team members?

We are unable to split or transfer donations between individual and team accounts.

How can I fundraise?

There are multiple ways you can fundraise for your Race for the Cure. All registered participants have access to a Fundraising Tools page in their Participant Center with toolkits, videos and ideas to get started.

Do you require fundraising?

Though not required, fundraising is highly encouraged for all Race participants.

Participant registration fees only offset the costs of the event. It’s the participant fundraising that fuels the work Komen does in your community and across the U.S.

How can I change my fundraising goal?

You can update your goal in your Participant Center using your desktop or mobile device or using your Race mobile app. In your Participant Center, navigate to the My Fundraising Progress tile and click the Edit Goal button. In the Race app, scroll down to the My Progress section and click the pink Edit Goal text link. Be sure to pick a goal that’s meaningful to you, and share the reasons behind your goal amount in your story.

Are patients, survivors and those living with metastatic breast cancer expected to fundraise?

Just like our other participants, we encourage every participant to fundraise and earn fundraising incentive items for their efforts! We find that survivors, those living with metastatic breast cancer and others that have a deeply personal connection to the cause are the most powerful and passionate fundraisers.

Isn’t my registration fee a donation?

Registration fees provide you access to the event and help to offset the costs for things like security, permits, tents and other operational items. Therefore, they are not tax-deductible donations.

Does the money raised benefit people in our community?

Funds raised by the Komen Race for the Cure series supports Komen’s mission to save lives and end breast cancer through breakthrough research and ensuring all people receive the care they need. Through your support, our neighbors will benefit from research discoveries, public policy advocacy and direct patient support services.

Do all proceeds go to Susan G. Komen? Yes.

Susan G. Komen owns the event and is responsible for costs associated with it. We do our best to keep costs at a minimum, but, as with any major event, there are necessary expenses associated with our races. Registration fees cover most event costs, and the remaining proceeds go back to Komen.

Registration fees are not a donation to Komen. We rely on the fundraising efforts of our participants and encourage all participants and volunteers to donate or raise funds for their local Race for the Cure.

What does Komen do with my donation to the Race?

The funds you donate will support Komen’s mission to save lives and end breast cancer through investing in breakthrough research and ensuring all people receive the care they need. Learn more about Komen’s impact.
